The Zoku Quick PopTM Maker freezes ice lollies without electricity. Simply store the compact base in your freezer until you are ready to use it, add the reusable lolly sticks, your chosen mixture and the base will instantly start to freeze your lollies.
The quick pop maker makes 3 lollies at a time and will make up to 9 before the base needs refreezing so no-one needs to go without!

The kids love it, but is it worth the cost?

Using this device couldn't really be easier - it uses the same principle as the plastic moulds that you pour liquid into, only this device turns that on it's head a little by sitting empty in the freezer until it's ready to be taken out and used, rather than the traditional approach of sitting empty in the cupboard until it's ready to be put into the freezer and used.It freezes liquid in 7 minutes (although thick juices do take a little bit longer in my experience), and it works because it's made out of metal which keeps it's cold temperature when outside the freezer.The upside of this -It's fun: children really enjoy making their own ice-lollies, and seeing them freeze (with the normal plastic moulds, this can take an hour or so, and happens out of sight). For adults, it's a cool way to get creative; if you have a juicer, the possibilities are almost endless, and the addition of slices can make for very pretty designs too.Instead of the usual sugar-laden fare, you can get them to eat healthier things.The downside -It's very cold when you take it out of the freezer - little fingers (and indeed bigger ones too, as I've found out to my cost) can get stuck onto the surface!It takes up space in the freezer, which can be at a premium about the same as a tub of ice-cream). If you only have a freezing compartment, it's not really practical.The cost is quite high for what it is - it'll take a long time to recover the purchase cost through savings made by use.Overall, If you have the space and the money, it's a fun product that should see a lot of use during the summer - but those of us who are budget-conscious may well prefer the cheaper Ice Lolly Maker instead.

Chomette is the importer of the Zoku Pop Maker so this is not a different item from the Zoku one on Amazon. Basically you put the pop maker in your freezer for a day and then pour in your desired liquids, put a stick in it and wait for about 10 minutes. The first time we tried it we made blueberry, orange, Coke, strawberry and chocolate lollies and made 2 batches. The instructions do say 'don't put carbonated drinks' in and I can see why because it did fizz up a bit even though I poured it out first to let some of the bubbles escape. Fill about 1cm under the fill line for fizzy drinks and top up if needed. Next time I will wait until the fizzy drinks are a bit flatter. You do need liquids with sugar in so that the lollies don't stick in the pop maker so it is not a dieter's dream. This is really good for children or adults with a nut or food allergy because you know exactly what has gone into them. A lot of commercial fruit lollies are made in factories that have production lines with nuts. My only gripe is that the handles are rather short - perhaps they are designed for 5 year old hands!
